Arlington County’s Public Library is seeking a Delivery Driver to perform collection and delivery duties to a variety of County locations including Libraries and County Buildings.
Specific duties include:
Operating a vehicle to collect, transport and deliver supplies, equipment, mail, books, money and other items to various locations throughout the County;- Ensuring maintenance and cleanliness of assigned vehicle and completion of all daily vehicle usage logs;
- Sorting items and loading vehicle according to order of delivery; prioritizing route in response to special work orders;
- Interacting with County representatives on nature and urgency of regular and special collections and deliveries;
- Uploading and unloading vehicle according to schedule;
- Maintaining collection and delivery records;
- Filling out forms to document pick-ups and drop-offs.
- Tracking and logging in monetary items collected and making bank and County Treasurer’s Office deposits;
- Preparing mail for pick-up by pre-sort company and delivering mail to County sites, Post Office, Federal Express, etc.; and
- Assisting with other trades and manual labor tasks such as room set-up, lifting/transporting items, and light custodial tasks.
Minimum: Less than the required education for completion of the requirements for graduation from a standard senior high school or obtaining a GED certificate.
Licenses/Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license from the incumbent's place of residence according to the Arlington County Driver Policy.
Desirables: Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following;
Knowledge of motor vehicle operation and maintenance;- Knowledge of postal procedures;
- Reading and writing skills to read basic work instructions and prepare routine correspondence; and
- Interpersonal skills to provide routine information courteously.
- This position performs activities inside and outside.
- This position is subject to cold (below 32 degrees) for periods of more than one hour and/or temperatures above 90 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as snow, rain, hail, wind, and humidity.
- Physical requirement: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work hours and location: Part-time, 30 hours per week. Actual work schedule will be determined by appointment, based on the needs of the library. This vacancy is located at Central Library, 1015 N. Quincy Street, Arlington, VA.
