This role will support Te Mātāwaka, the Green Party's Māori and Pasifika Caucus, and advise all Green MPs on the application of te Tiriti o Waitangi to their work. The role may also cover other policy areas.

Reporting to the Kaitohu Te Mātāwaka, you will enjoy a collaborative and fast-paced working environment. You will be driven by a commitment to the Green Party kaupapa, using your political insights and policy experience to support Green Party MPs to be at the forefront of public policy in Aotearoa.

Some of your responsibilities and accountabilities will include:

  • Analysing and providing advice on policy and legislation, especially with regard to te Tiriti o Waitangi implications and impacts on Māori.
  • Assisting Green MPs to make progress on policies listed in the Cooperation Agreement with the Labour Party.
  • Liaising and consulting with hapū, iwi, and other Māori stakeholders on behalf of the Green Party

  • Staying up to date with developments and debates in priority kaupapa Māori policy areas.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with sector and industry representatives, NGOs, unions, academics, and other interest groups.

This exciting opportunity will offer you variety and challenges, and provide you with a unique insight into the political process and how Parliament operates.

Ideally, you will have experience in a policy role within the public service, an iwi organisation, and/or an advocacy organisation such as an NGO. You'll use your skills as a fast learner to quickly get up to speed on a range of issues, and you'll build relationships and networks with Māori political stakeholders. Fluency in te reo Māori and familiarity with parliamentary and governmental processes will be advantageous.

This is a full time, events-based position. Some flexibility of working hours may be required according to the business of the House.
